Summary

Primary accountability for managing strategic projects (across multiple modes) related to improving logistics services and reducing cost. This position works cross-functionally to determine ways to optimize service levels, improve supply chain efficiency and minimize costs. This position is responsible for supporting North American Logistics Procurement activities, including synthesizing and reporting findings from freight data, carrier contracted rates and carrier performance, which will play a critical role in creating an optimized logistics strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and executes Logistics projects while ensuring assigned target dates are met.
  • Must have experience with all modes with focus on Ocean and LTL.
  • Must have experience working with carriers and customers to develop and improve customer on time service metrics.
  • Will work closely with sales and operations to ensure on time service expectations are aligned.
  • Evaluate impact of service issues that are driven by carriers vs. plant and report findings and drive change management to improve service.
  • Develop, propose and execute changes associated with existing third party services vs. in house or other potential opportunities.
  • Clear understanding of freight Annual Operating Plan process and ability to improve budget reconciliation process.
  • Contract negotiation - negotiate contracts with support from legal; negotiate scope, contract terms and commercial terms with vendors resulting from projects or processes in discussion with Logistics leadership.
  • Strong participation in team activities, establishing task priorities, scheduling and tracking project assignments, while providing the appropriate guidance to cross-functional team members.     
  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
  • Work with operations leadership on projects to support operations strategy.
  • Demonstrate and foster an environment of continuous improvement
  • Create an environment that fosters team work, collaboration, flexibility and change acceptance that supports quality, standardization and cost savings

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred)  
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of truckload, intermodal, ocean and LTL  
  • Must demonstrate significant experience in project management and show successes in deployment of systems/processes.
  • Demonstrated competence in cost reduction and process improvement
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem solving capabilities
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently
  • ERP experience preferred
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience, knowledge or trained in Lean and or Six Sigma Methodologies highly desired.
